“I love to hear a choir, I love the humanity, to see the faces of real people devoting themselves to a piece of music. I like the teamwork, it makes me optimistic about the human race when I see them co-operating like that.”

Sir Paul McCartney

ABOUT US

The Choir was formed in 1990 and since then the choir has gained the excellent reputation for fine singing it enjoys today.

The Choir’s aims are to foster and promote ladies choral singing, raise funds for local and national charities and good causes, inspire and nurture young local singers and performers and to champion Tamworth for the benefit of the local economy through our concert performances. Together of course with providing a convivial atmosphere for all members to enjoy as a stimulating and enjoyable hobby.

Since its formation the choir has sung at many concerts and functions in the Tamworth and West Midlands area and in doing so has built a well-deserved reputation for a high quality and varied light programme of classic and contemporary songs. This means that the choir are in great demand and many charities and worthy causes have benefited from concerts in which the choir have performed. To date the choir has helped to raise many tens of thousands of pounds for charities.

The choir has toured Germany and Holland, incorporating singing in Tamworth’s Twin Town of Bad Laasphe and at the Lorelei Rock on the River Rhine. Nearer to home they have established long lasting associations with Neath Male Voice Choir, Shifnal Male Voice Choir and more recently Treverva Male Voice Choir based in Falmouth. Exchange visits with these choirs are always entertaining and enjoyed by all participants providing a personal as well as a choral link.

Whilst the serious side of music is never forgotten, variety is a strong factor in any performance. Individual talented choir members provide the scope and range to include solo items and amusing monologues. Various social activities also provide light relief from rehearsing and performing.

With a busy schedule ahead, the future looks bright for Tamworth Ladies’ Choir, the choir that sings with “Tender Loving Care” and believes in members “Finding their Voice”.

The choir are always striving to improve their performances and continually add new and testing songs to their repertoire.

  • “Gail, you and your entire choir are to be congratulated on a magnificent series of pieces in tonight’s concert at the Assembly Rooms. Each song was perfectly sung and unison abounded. I especially enjoyed ‘This Old Man’ which was a brave choice and one which keeps English traditions very much alive. Please can you tell all the ladies how proud they should be of their performance, which I thought was worthy of a professional production. You are also very fortunate indeed to have such a great accompanist. Keep up the GREAT work”
